Kerry B. Everett
Kerry Everett founded the Everett Law Office in 2005, and Everett Law, PLLC in 2016. She is licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina, the Federal Western District Court of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit. For the past 17 years, her practice has focused primarily on employment law and adoption law. In her employment law practice, she represents and advises corporations and individuals in state and federal discrimination cases (race, age, gender, disability, and retaliation), unemployment hearings and appeals, and negotiating employment contracts including severance agreements. Her adoption law practice focuses on representing and advising individuals in independent and agency adoptions; interstate adoptions; refinalization of international adoptions in the U.S.; relative and stepparent adoptions; contested adoptions; adult adoptions; name changes; and the termination of parental rights. Her family law practice focuses on absolute divorce, child custody, child support; equitable distribution; post-separation support; and alimony cases.
Ms. Everett is a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association. She has been named a selectee for Super Lawyers in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022; Business North Carolina magazine's 2019 Legal Elite; the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys (NAFLA) Top 10 Attorney Award for excellence in the field of family law, and America's Top 50 Lawyer in North Carolina Family Law in 2022. She has served on the Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Division Personnel Committee and the HOME Ministry of Calvary Church. She served as the Chairperson of the Lawyers Referral Services Committee of the Mecklenburg County Bar from 2014-2015. She also served as member of the Board of Directors for United Faith Christian Academy from 2012-2013.
Ms. Everett obtained her Juris Doctorate cum laude from Seattle University School of Law in 1999. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the Seattle University Law Review from 1998-99, and a member of the Moot Court Board from 1996-98. Prior to law school, Ms. Everett graduated from the University of Alabama cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 1990.
She and her husband have been married for 31 years, and they have two children and a golden retriever.
